Shetlands

Our Shetland sheep were our first sheep. We started with 3 and our love of these small, hardy sheep grew each time we were with them. Shetlands are a small heritage breed from the Shetland Isles in Scotland and are extremely hardy and parasite resistant. They produce some of the softest wool there is and Queen Elizabeth would only have her items made from Shetland wool. It is soft enough to wear next to your skin without itching and fine enough to be made into lace. Once they know you they are very friendly and we enjoy going out into the pasture after a tough day for some “sheep therapy”, where you just sit in the grass or the barn and they will come up to you for scratches and to lay down next to you.
